Investiture ceremonies for two new District Court judges and a Family Court judge will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Cashman Center Theatre.

The ceremony is a welcoming event for Judge Valorie Vega of Department 2, Judge James Mahan of Department 12 and Family Court Judge Arthur Ritchie of Department H.

Vega received her law degree from the University of Southern California in 1982 and was admitted to the Nevada bar a year later. She was a city of Las Vegas municipal judge from 1989 until March, when she received the District Judge appointment, and was a deputy district attorney from 1984 to 1989.

Mahan earned his law degree from Vanderbilt Law School in 1973 and was admitted to the Nevada bar a year later. He practiced law in the private sector for 24 years.

Ritchie received his law degree from George Mason University School of Law in 1987 and was admitted to the Nevada bar in 1989. He practiced law in the private sector for 10 years.

Resnick to run Family Court center

Rachelle Resnick has been named manager for the yet-to-open Family Court Self Service Center.

The center will provide access, education, information and support services for self-represented people who have legal matters in Family Court.

The Self Service Center is scheduled to open Monday in temporary facilities in the Family Court Services building at 601 N. Pecos Road.

Top contest entries to decorate court

The eighth annual Spirit of Nevada art contest awards ceremony was to be held at 4 p.m. today in the courtroom of District Judge Michael Douglas.

The contest, designed to reward young art talent in the community, was founded by late District Judge Addeliar Guy.

The first-place artwork will be displayed in Department 11. Artwork of the runners-up will be displayed outside the jury orientation room.
