Fishing report -- April 28, 1999

LAKE MEAD: This is the time of the year when striped bass head to their spawning grounds, and this means that the fish can be difficult for anglers to locate.

Several boaters have connected with stripers in the morning hours in the Muddy River, the Meat Hole and Rogers Bay in the Overton Arm. Anglers fishing in the Boulder Basin have found fish in deep water near Hemenway Harbor and from shore at the Pyramid Island causeway.

LAKE MOHAVE: Striped bass fishing remains fair in the narrows above Cottonwood Cove for boaters who are drifting baits in deep water. Stripers measuring from 12 to 16 inches are being caught.

Trout fishing should be fair by the coming weekend at Willow Beach because it is scheduled to be stocked with 2,500 rainbow trout on Thursday.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Recent storms have made for unpleasant and difficult fishing conditions with most anglers reporting they have had little or no success for rainbow trout.
