Letter: It's school's duty to manage traffic

The reason given was that a child sent to retrieve an older sibling at dismissal was nearly hit in the parking lot. Upon closing the lot, school officials even suggested that parents pick up children one or two blocks away from school. If children don't know how to walk through a parking lot, how are they going to make it two blocks?

The parking lot in question has no markings for traffic flow, no pedestrian lanes and no adult supervision. Do school officials believe that when the final bell rings, their responsibility ends? Do our schools teach traffic safety anymore?
