Letter: Smut doesn't deserve free speech status

The American Civil Liberties Union is at it again. It amazes me that the ACLU can equate free speech with passing out obscene handbills to pedestrians. A good analogy is letting someone shoot people on the sidewalk in support of their Second Amendment rights.
It seems obvious that these smut peddlers' free speech is not violated when they are free to print what they want and put it in a newspaper box (sort of like newspapers, which are protected by the First Amendment, right?) to be available to anyone who chooses.
Why they should flaunt their garbage, 95 percent of which becomes literal garbage in a matter of moments, is beyond me. Hopefully justice will see the light.
