Weather delays road project

Weather is delaying the start of work until at least the latter part of this week. The $4 million dollar project was to have begun on Monday.

Project engineers say the entire project may drag out for two years. That's largely because of a deal with Virginia City merchants to stop work in June and resume it in September after the community's peak tourism season, including the camel races.

Nevada Department of Transportation engineers say the delays will push the project into a second year.

"By not working during July and August - our prime months for paving, especially at these elevations - it's going to put this project into another summer," NDOT Assistant District Engineer George Gordy told KOLO-TV.

"We're going to have to interrupt traffic again for a short period of time next summer."
