Awareness seminar scheduled Tuesday

Business Watch Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing crime and improving the economic climate, is hosting a free methamphetamine lab awareness seminar 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Greater Las Vegas Board of Realtors meeting room, 1750 E. Sahara Ave.

Metro Police, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, Clark County Health Department, state attorney general's office and governor's office will participate. Call Carolyn Grant at 889-1673.

Bus trip planned to Utah festival

KNPR is sponsoring a bus trip to the Utah Shakespearean Festival Wednesday.

The cost of the trip to Cedar City is $50 and includes transportation, a box lunch, tickets to a "Midsummer Night's Dream," and a reception following the play. Seating is limited. For reservations, call 258-9895.

Course will teach personal defense strategy

"Refuse to Be a Victim," a safety seminar, will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday at Las Vegas Harley-Davidson, 2605 S. Eastern Ave.

The three-hour course teaches a personal defense strategy to protect against becoming a victim of a violent crime. Cost is $10 and includes a workbook. Call Kent at 225-5253.

Hike to explore surviving in desert

A 2-mile moderate hike, Desert Kitchen/Pharmacy, will be held Monday in Red Rock Canyon.

Participants will hike through Lost Creek and Willow Spring and discover how Indians survived in the area. Bring water.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers free hikes and walks with reservations. Call 363-1921.

Seniors will host 55 Alive class

Green Valley Senior Friends will present a 55 Alive Defensive Driving Class 1-5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Green Valley Office, 2809 N. Green Valley Parkway for drivers 50 and over.

A certificate is given upon completion that may used to get a reduction on insurance premiums. Call 434-6500.

Hawaiian beach party planned at Texas

MountainView Senior Friends will sponsor "Hawaiian Beach Party" 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday at Texas Station's Armadillo Cafe.

There will be a "Don Ho" lookalike contest, a hula contest and a best Hawaiian shirt contest. Call 255-5404.

Program will help middle school students

The Sahara West branch of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is hosting "Surviving Middle School" 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Students entering sixth and seventh grades and their parents can learn how to stay safe and do well in middle school. Call 228-3321.
