Letter: Republicans are now Independents

Ah yes, the latest trend is surfacing, that being, "Oh I'm not a Republican, I'm an Independent," which only means that people want to disassociate themselves with that "R" word.

Yes, because the Republican platform represents anti-abortion, tax relief for the rich, anti-Social Security, anti-Medicare, a distinct lack of care for a health care system, child aid programs and school lunches.

So, if you are an independent, it won't bother you that come next election day when the Republican-led Congress is no longer in power, you'll be part of two parties with nothing to say.

Also, after 12 years of that great "Reagan-Bush" tremendous rise in our defect and six years of this "Gingrich Contract" Congress, it really is time to move on.
