One dead, one injured in plane crash

Errol Broussard, 51, of Lafayette, La., was killed, and flight instructor Charles Stone Jr., 23, of Cathedral City, Calif., was critically injured when the 1968 model Cessna 177A Cardinal made a turn Tuesday and crashed into a wall of a wash.

The site is north of Lake Mohave on the Nevada side of the Colorado River in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Stone is an employee of Barron Thomas Aviation of Scottsdale, which confirmed that Broussard had bought the aircraft a few hours before the crash.

Ranger Dale Antonich said Broussard was in the pilot's seat when the single-engine plane took off from Boulder City Airport.

Witnesses said they saw the plane barely clear a hill at low altitude and then crash into a gully, Antonich said.
