Rock star accused of inciting violence during LV concert

The bassist and three crew members for rock band Motley Crue were arrested at a Mandalay Bay Event Center concert last night after Metro Police said the band member incited a crowd "to become violent."

Bass player Nikki Sixx, whose real name is Frank Carlton Ferrano, was arrested and booked into Clark County Detention Center on a charge of provoking a breach of the peace.

Crew members Chris Reynolds and Geoff Perren were charged with obstructing a peace officer, and a third crew member, John Gabrielli, was charged with battery on a police officer.

Sixx and two of the crew members were released from the detention center early this morning.

The concert was opened by the rock group Scorpions and was attended by more than 8,000 fans, according to Mandalay Bay.

Metro Lt. Richard Alba said that sometime during the concert, Sixx began inciting the crowd to become violent. Alba did not have immediate access to the police report to clarify what Sixx had said to the crowd and at what point he said it.

Police went to arrest Sixx around midnight and "a scuffle" broke out between crew members and police, leading to the arrest of Sixx and the three other men, Alba said.

Alba said police had held several pre-concert meetings with the band's management to outline how the show would run.

Police wanted to avoid the type of behavior that occurred when Motley Crue played the Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts in 1997, Alba said. A man assaulted vocalist Vince Neil on stage, forcing a temporary halt in the concert.
