Woman indicted in motorcyclist's death

A Clark County grand jury Wednesday indicted a woman whom prosecutors say that in a fit of road rage caused the death of a motorcyclist near Jean.

Alexis Jill Bodkin, 22, faces charges of reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, both felonies.

Arraignment has been set for Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. before District Judge Kathy Hardcastle.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Gary Booker said if convicted Bodkin could receive the maximum penalty of one-to-six years in prison and a $5,000 fine for the reckless driving charge and two to 15 years and a $5,000 fine for leaving the scene.

Bodkin, who lives in the Las Vegas area, is free on her own recognizance.

On Jan. 28 Anthony Scott Wray died of massive head injuries after his motorcycle slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer driven by Marianne Reed on Interstate 15, about 30 miles south of Las Vegas.

Booker said two trucks were traveling side-by-side at the time of the accident, backing up traffic on the interstate.

He said Bodkin passed the two trucks on the right shoulder, got in front of the one driven by Reed and slammed on her brakes, forcing Reed to also hit her brakes.

Booker said Wray, who may have been traveling too close, struck the truck's trailer and the motorcycle skidded under the trailer's wheels and was dragged a short distance before it caught fire.

Booker said Wray was wearing a helmet, but the injury was too severe for it to have helped.

He said initial reports that Wray was trying to drive between the two vehicles were incorrect.

Booker said 21 witnesses were interviewed during a three-month-long investigation.
