Kirk Kerkorian, who controls MGM Grand Inc. of Las Vegas, has expressed an interest in buying the New York Jets, the New York Times reported Sunday.
One NFL owner, who was not identified by the Times, said the chances for Kerkorian, 82, to successfully buy the team are "good if he really wants them."
Others, however, note the NFL may have a problem with the billionaire Kerkorian's gambling interests.
Potential owners can make a bid and those bids will be presented to the estate of former owner Leon Hess, which will accept the highest or most agreeable offer.
Financial experts have said that the Jets could be sold for $500 million.
