Letter: Today's GOP lying to seniors

Once again you hear all kinds of talk about how much they want to "help working people," school kids and seniors. Why, they have a near billion-dollar tax cut that will amount to about $3 a week for the average working person (their anti-labor policies will cost working people many times that).

Don't forget the seniors because they are being told on an almost daily basis how they intend to "protect" Social Security and Medicare (about the same way the fox would protect the chickens if he could just get into the hen house) and they are running an oxymoron (compassionate conservative) for president to prove it!

I remember when Republicans' battle cry was "get rid of Social Security," then it was "cut Social Security," then it was "cut entitlements" and now all of a sudden it's "protect Social Security." It seems they got discouraged with a frontal attack and are now pursuing an assault from within using privatization as their "Trojan horse."

Somehow, I respect the old-time conservatives like Barry Goldwater who said what they meant and didn't try to con you the way today's scam artists in the GOP are trying to do to the seniors.
