Letter: Weddings, Elvis make the night
Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999 | 9:43 a.m.
My guest was from Maryland and had never been here. When I asked her if there was anything special she wanted to see, she said she wanted to see a Las Vegas wedding on a Saturday night. I was a little taken back by her reply, but people have strange wishes, so I thought I would try it.
We arrived at a chapel on the Strip. There were two weddings scheduled. At each wedding we asked if we might attend and each couple was delighted. They said they were from out of town and did not have any aunts or uncles. Would we please be aunts? We were included in the pictures.
In attendance there was an Elvis impersonator, a nice looking boy in conservative black leather. He sang a song, but after the usual wedding he gave a talk to the bride and groom. It was a thoughtful and caring talk with some advice. It gave a special touch to the affair. I talked to him after and found him a serious and delightful person who enjoyed what he did.
It was an interesting and pleasant experience.
