Moana Stadium to get facelift, new name

RENO, Nev. - Moana Stadium will be getting a $500,000 facelift and a new name.

The Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce has offered to raise the funds to renovate the 25-year-old, city-owned stadium.

The improvements will begin next week with the repaving of the parking lot.

The stadium is home of the Western Baseball League's Reno Blackjacks. City officials said renovations will be finished in time for the season opener next spring.

In gratitude of the chamber's efforts, the City Council on Tuesday passed a resolution renaming the stadium in honor of the late Steven Riddell, a past chamber president and avid baseball fan.

Dedication ceremonies renaming the facility Steven Riddell Stadium will be held 4:30 p.m. Saturday before the Blackjacks' last game of the 1999 season.
