Prosecutors want accused embezzler to pay back money

RENO, Nev. - Prosecutors said they will seek repayment of $185,000 from a woman accused of embezzling money from a Galena High School student fund.

Paula Rotsma is accused of taking the money from the school's student activity fund over an 18-month period. Authorities contend she made false financial reports and withheld accounting information to hide the theft.

Rotsma was placed on leave when an internal audit was requested by school officials in February. She resigned in June when she turned herself in to Reno police.

Officials said the former bookkeeper has admitted to taking $45,000, but school district officials claim the loss is closer to $185,000.
