Members of Secretary of State Dean Heller's notary staff will update residents on changes made to notary law by the 1999 Legislature. Basic notary training will also be included.

BLM will host pre-adoption clinics

The Bureau of Land Management will hold free clinics to teach Las Vegans how to care for a wild horse in an urban environment.

Clinics are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday and Sept. 11 and 25 in preparation for wild horse adoptions Oct. 2-3. The clinics, at Intermountain Farmers Association, 3176 W. Martin Ave. off Industrial Road south of Sunset Road, will be taught by Al Cirelli, University of Nevada Extension horse specialist, and Brenda Cloud, a vocational education instructor for Cooperative Extension.

Classes in a variety of activities planned

The West Las Vegas Arts Center will be accepting registration for fall classes now through Sept. 11.

Classes are offered for adults, teens and children in dance, music, theater, arts, African cultural arts and self-enhancement. Classes include steel drum band, poetry workshop, West Las Vegas Youth Mass Choir, recording studio production, Tae Kwon Do and others. For a brochure on classes, call 229-4800.

Author to speak at Gymboree event

Maria Marinakis, author of "Parenting Infants and Toddlers Without Going Nuts," will be the guest speaker at the Gymboree Play Program's "open play."

Visit the canyon in a nighttime hike

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers free hikes and walks with reservations. Call 363-1921. Some coming programs:

Sandstone Canyon: A 4-mile moderately strenuous hike Monday to explore the narrow canyons of red sandstone on our way to visit ancient petroglyphs and discuss about how Indianslived in Red Rock Canyon. Bring water and a lunch.

Twilight Tuesday: A 2 1/2-mile moderate to strenuous hike Tuesday to hear sounds of the night. Hikers will sit by a water encatchment and listen to the voices of the night and enjoy the solitude of the desert at night.

Trigeminal neuralgia meeting scheduled

The Trigeminal Neuralgia Association Las Vegas Support Group will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Heaton Chorale offers spots in two groups

The Myron Heaton Chorale will hold open auditions for the Volunteer Community Chorale and the Professional Bel Canto Ensemble at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ruth Fyfe Elementary School, 4101 W. Bonanza Road, for anyone interested in performing in the group's 10th concert season.

Fashion show to help McDonald House

Studio 54 at the MGM Grand is opening its second tier to the Ronald McDonald House for its celebrity fund-raising fashion show 3-7 p.m. Saturday.

Models include some of Nevada's first ladies and local entertainers. Tickets are sold in blocks of four at $1,000, $500 and $250. Call 252-4663.

All proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House, a "home away from home" for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals or outpatient clinics.

Pancake breakfast

County Commissioner Dario Herrera and members of the county staff will meet residents of District G at a special Community Pancake Breakfast 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Whitney Senior Center, 5712 Missouri Ave. The event is free and open to all residents. Call 455-3530.

MSAA services
