Letter: Herrera, Askew: You make choice

It's policymakers like him who will go through countless thousands of dollars in the coffers to act on a whim, giving the appearance of effectiveness, but not having anything worthwhile to show for their wasteful actions in the end.

And who will have to pick up the pieces, pay the creditors, and answer to the "constituents" when he's gone?

Now we have a guy like Dale Askew; a steady-Eddie. He has a job. He has a spreadsheet and a budget. In his quiet way he has a plan, goals that come through serious calculation, thought and responsible planning.

A true servant. Not a spendthrift, not a loud talker, not a public person; simply a guy who has an important role to play in government affairs and personification of government for the people that serves the people. When he's gone, people will find order, documentation, and a viable strategy on which they may build (and not bankrupt) government that serves all of the people.

Tedious and boring work, meticulous detailing, knowledge and insight; not reckless with power, authority and position.

Which of the two types of people really serve the people as effective government managers? Which of the two do we need most in government?
