Letter: Hispanics need representation that matters

The Hispanic political leaders did not endorse him. In reality the Hispanic political leaders were not going to take a stand and commit themselves 100 percent to endorsing Don Chairez.

Originally they endorsed Shelley Berkley, but because there was some dissension of not backing Chairez, the political leaders were forced to halfheartedly include Chairez in their endorsement.

With the two new Las Vegas city wards, several of these so-called Hispanic community leaders are vying for the seats. The candidates running for these two seats have been pre-selected by our so-called Hispanic community leaders.

My personal opinion is that the City Council should look to other possible Hispanic candidates who truly are doing for their community, not just the Hispanic community but for the residents of the city of Las Vegas. We need someone who is sincere in representing their community and the citizens of Southern Nevada.

These so-called Hispanic community leaders were not there for Don Chairez or Daniel Mendoza. At the Daniel Mendoza march, in front of the Foley Building, where were these Hispanic leaders? The city of Las Vegas and our communities need better representation and I know that there are other nonpolitical Hispanics who can do a better job representing us.
