Last year: Mark Martin ended Jeff Gordon's bid for a record fifth straight Winston Cup victory. Martin edged Roush Racing teammate Jeff Burton by 2.185 seconds. Gordon finished fifth.
Last race: Bobby Labonte won the Pepsi 400, his third career victory at Michigan Speedway. Labonte beat Gordon by .865 seconds.
Fast facts: Darrell Waltrip leads all drivers with seven Goody's 500 wins. ... The race was run under the lights for the first time in 1978. Cale Yarborough was the winner. ... Last week was the 10th straight race that Dale Jarrett has extended his points lead. ... Junior Johnson has won 21 times at Bristol to lead all car owners.

Last year: Kevin Lepage passed Dale Jarrett on lap 248 and held off Phil Parsons by .159 seconds. Lepage took advantage of a four-lap shootout following a nine-car wreck.
Last race: Dale Earnhardt Jr. pulled away from Jeff Gordon for a decisive victory in the NAPA 200 at Michigan Speedway. Earnhardt led 68 of the 100 laps.
Fast facts: Chevrolet has seven victories at Bristol. ... Earnhardt increased his lead over Matt Kenseth in the point standings to 89. Earnhardt leads 3,287-3,198. ... Earnhardt and Kenseth competed in the Winston Cup Pepsi 400 last week at Michigan Speedway.

Fast facts: Biffle is the third driver in series history to win at least seven times in a season. Only Mike Skinner has won more - eight times in 1995 and 1996. ... Biffle seeks to become the third driver to win three consecutive races. Skinner (1996) and Ron Hornaday (1997) accomplished the feat. ... Biffle leads Jack Sprague by 53 points in the standings.

Fast facts: Kenny Brack or Scott Sharp can become the IRL career victories leader with a win. ... Greg Ray is the only driver to win consecutive races on 1-mile ovals. ... Bobby Regester, four-time champion of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, will be competing in his first IRL event.

Belgian Grand Prix

Schedule: Saturday, qualifying (Speedvision, 4 a.m.); Sunday, race (Fox Sports Net, 10 a.m.)
Track: Spa-Francorchamps (road course, 4.329 miles).
Race distance: 190.476 miles, 44 laps.
Last year: Damon Hill won in a rainstorm that caused one of the biggest pileups in F1 history and led to German star Michael Schumacher's late-race crash. Schumacher was leading by a half-minute when he hit the back of David Coulthard's car while blinded by sprayed water. Earlier in the race, 12 cars slammed into each other in a first-lap pileup.
Last race: Mika Hakkinen led the Hungarian Grand Prix from start to finish for his fourth victory of the season. Series points leader Eddie Irvine finished third.
Fast facts: The Ardennes forest circuit is 60 miles from Schumacher's hometown of Kerpen, Germany. He made his first F1 start in the 1991 race, and raced to his first career victory at the track in 1992. Schumacher was disqualified because of a technical violation after finishing first in 1994.

CHAMPIONSHIP AUTO RACING TEAMS
Last race: Juan Montoya won the Target Grand Prix in Cicero, Ill., his second straight victory and sixth of the season, breaking the rookie record for wins set in 1993 by Nigel Mansell. The victory moved Montoya back into the points lead by four over Dario Franchitti.
Next race: Molson Indy, Sept. 5, Vancouver, British Columbia.

Last event: John Force won for the eighth time this season, defeating Whit Bazemore in the Colonel's Truck Accessories Nationals in Brainerd, Minn. Larry Dixon, Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Craig Treble also were winners in their respective categories.
