Utility bills for Northern Nevada to drop slightly

Power and gas customers of Sierra Pacific Power Co. will get another rebate under an agreement approved by the state Public Utilities Commission.
Typical power customers will receive $10 credit on their September bill. The rebate to gas customers will be $11.40.
The rebates stem from an agreement reached two years ago with state regulators and the consumer advocate. Sierra Pacific capped rates for two years and agreed to share profits over 12 percent in those years with consumers.
The rebate announced Thursday is a result of Sierra Pacific's $9.35 million in excess earnings last year.
Customers received a $10 rebate in May for an extra $10 million the company earned in 1997.
