Cashell weighs race for Washoe County Commission

RENO, Nev. - Former Lt. Gov. Bob Cashell said he is considering running against Washoe County Commissioner Jim Galloway for the District 1 in next year's election.

Cashell, 61, owns the Alamo truck stop in Sparks and has been running the Ormsby House Hotel-Casino in Carson City while a buyer is sought.

Cashell said he'd back off running for office if he stays on at the Ormsby House under new ownership.

"I really enjoy what I do," he said. "But I can't say I didn't enjoy politics because I did."

Cashell was Nevada's lieutenant governor from 1982 through 1986. He is also a former university regent.

Galloway announced his intent to seek re-election last week. Both he and Cashell are Republicans.

Candidate filing for the November 2000 election opens on May 1.
