Letter: Evolution label needs amending

My suggestions for the teaching of evolution: "Evolution is an unproven scientific theory in the same sense that the theory of gravity is what keeps you from flying off the surface of the Earth and the heliocentric theory says that the Earth rotates around the sun."

After all, no one has been far enough into space to actually see the solar system as a whole. For the teaching of creationism: "Creationism is a wholly religious concept for which there is absolutely no scientific evidence."

A final comment on the gospel according to Stephanie Bell, member of the Alabama Board of Education, who wrote that state's textbook label. She says that telling children that we descended from monkeys could be detrimental to their mental heath.

Anyone not totally ignorant of science would know that no evolutionist anywhere has said that humans are descendants of monkeys. Maybe she needs to actually read some of the science texts that she wants to censor.
