Two masked gunman rob Klondike Sunset

Two masked gunmen robbed the Klondike Sunset casino change cage at about 4 a.m. this morning, and then fled out the back of the casino with an undisclosed amount of cash, Henderson police said.

A man who was inside the casino at the time of the robbery said he didn't even know what happened until it was all over. The man, who would not give his name, said most of the 30 or so people inside the casino didn't realize it was a robbery until the police showed up.

Police shut down Sunset Road in Henderson at Boulder Highway for about 90 minutes trying to find the robbers. Police will review the casino's surveillance tapes today, Henderson Police spokesman Charlie Johnson said.

Police spotted three people on the roof of the casino minutes after the robbery and quickly sent a SWAT team up to the roof. But what they found were scared customers who had scrambled to the roof after the robbery.

Police also detained two people in the parking lot just after the robbery but they weren't the robbers either.

"We detained five people, but determined they had nothing to do with the robbery," Johnson said. "When we got here we didn't know who was on the roof. We thought they could have been the suspects.

"The people on the roof were patrons of the casino who apparently became frightened," Johnson said. "The whole (robbery) took a minute or less. Most of the people in the casino didn't know it happened."

No Klondike Sunset officials were available to comment this morning.
