Brief: Competition delay recommended

The commission is making the recommendation to the Nevada Legislature and will confer with lawmakers to determine a new date. Competition had been scheduled to begin Dec. 31.

Commissioners cited several reasons for making the recommendation, including needing time to review costs of services that will remain regulated, development of provider of last resort regulations, Year 2000 computer issues, reviewing regulatory plans in surrounding states and decisions from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on establishing an office to coordinate competitive issues between states.
