Brief: LV Hilton sues over 'Star Trek' problems

Hilton Hotels Corp. claims major redesigns of the project delayed the opening and cost the resort money. The resort is now owned by Park Place Entertainment, Hilton's gaming division that was spun off as a separate company at the first of the year.

Hilton executives originally hoped to unveil the $70 million Star Trek project in the spring of 1997, but it was delayed several times because of technical problems before it opened in January 1998.

The lawsuit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court against Paramount Parks Inc. Paramount spokeswoman Susan Lomax could not be reached for comment.

According to the complaint, Hilton and Paramount entered an operating lease agreement in July 1995 pertaining to construction and operation of the themed attraction.

The lawsuit claims Paramount failed to comply with its obligations under the terms of the agreement.
