Brief: New service puts messages on screen

The service, which costs $9.95 a month, requires a screen telephone, which costs $200.

Visual MessageLine allows customers to scroll through messages and play, save or delete them with a button without having to listen to every message. The screen displays the phone number of the call source, the time of the call and its duration. A redial key will automatically call back any of the last 20 callers that left messages.

Sprint also is offering a PowerTouch 450 telephone that has a wireless keyboard that communicates with the main phone unit with an infrared beam. The keyboard can be used to send and receive e-mail through the phone.
