County calls for new nuke routes

Clark County commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday requesting that the U.S. Department of Energy use the railroad and rural roads to transport nuclear waste to the Nevada Test Site.

Shipments of low-level nuclear waste from the Fernald, Ohio, nuclear weapons plant were suspended in 1997 after one of its trucks leaked fluid in Kingman, Ariz. Shipments are expected to resume later this month.
