Bill proposes brightening Nevada license plate design

Nevada motorists will get plates with the new design starting in 2001, and Chowning, D-North Las Vegas, wants them made in the official state colors of blue and silver.

Chowning says the color on the bighorn sheep plates looks a dull gray, and the sheep and the numbers on the plate also can't be easily seen.

"It's an ugly designed plate," she added.

She proposed a bill Thursday to require the committee that will pick the new plate design to ensure it's in bright blue and silver.

The chairwoman of the Assembly Transportation Committee, Chowning also would like to serve on the committee that approves the design.
