Lake Mead offers free programs

Some upcoming programs:

Desert Tortoise: Park Biologist Denise Cobb will share an understanding of the Mojave Desert's tortoise Saturday and what steps have been undertaken to see that this ancient desert dweller continues as a part of the future.

Premier Recreation: Park Planner Jim Holland will describe the various ways the public uses the lakes and what they value in coming to the recreation area. This program will be Feb. 19.

National Park Service rangers and volunteers also offer a variety of hikes. Reservations are required and can be made in person or by telephone.

Cranes Nest Rapids: Hike down a dry wash to the Colorado River in Arizona. Four-wheel-drive vehicle is required. Moderate, four-mile hike. This program will be Saturday.
