Letter: Republicans know why they're behind

The letter "South still breeds white supremacist hatred" outlines the significance of the affiliation of Trent Lott and Bob Barr (both Republican Clinton-haters) with the Council of Conservative Citizens. The letter "GOP's real motive becomes obvious" explains that the Republicans really want to get rid of Social Security.

In both cases the Republicans deny being racist and wanting to undermine Social Security, but the people who they so seriously underestimate have figured it out.

The only thing keeping the Republicans in the running is the low voter turnout and the fact that their far-right supporters, who want to force their particular religious views on the rest of us, have proportionately more clout than their numbers really justify.
