Speedway set to mail NASCAR tickets

Anxious race fans who have been patiently waiting for their Las Vegas 400 NASCAR Winston Cup Tickets should receive them within the next week.

That's the good news.

The possible bad news is that some fans won't be in the same seats they occupied last year. Las Vegas Motor Speedway officials said some fans were given seats in new locations, due to a computer crash that wiped out seating lists and charts.

The computer problem transpired before the new LVMS management team under new track owner Bruton Smith came on board in December.

Speedway officials want to emphasize that fans will not be downgraded. In other words, if they paid $110 for a premium ticket, they will receive a $110 premium ticket. But in some cases, they won't be in the same section as last year.

While it's not unusual for tracks to re-seat fans, it's usually considered an upgrade. For example, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, fans who sit in the first-turn bleachers one year, and renew their tickets the following year, may be moved to a location in the grandstand.

Likewise, many fans who purchased tickets for the March 7 Winston Cup race at LVMS may receive new seats in a "better" location. Others may find themselves in seats they don't consider as good as the ones they had for last year's race.

"It's just a very unfortunate situation," LVMS spokesman Jeff Motley said. "These circumstances were unforeseen and couldn't be helped. We're just rolling up our sleeves and trying to make things for our race fans the best we can."
