Letter: Cocktail waitress: Sands execs lied

We were always promised a wonderful, new hotel in which to work. In 1996, we were called to a special meeting at Phil Barnett, Food Beverage VP's office and the plans for the new hotel were laid out for us.

He told us of an all-suite hotel with an upscale casino in the future. When this was done, all the employees would be moved to the new property. A second, connecting megaresort would be built on the old property.

Several months later, we received six weeks notice that the hotel was closing.

I applied at the Monte Carlo. I was told that all cocktail servers were already hired. I tried to attend a seminar that was being given at the Sands by a company that Adelson hired called Rite Associates.

I was told I could not attend because I was a member of the Culinary Union. I received a letter in early December giving me a chance to apply at the Venetian. When I applied, I received a short interview, but no second interview. Is this how Mr. Adelson keeps his promises to give us good jobs at his new hotel when he builds it?
