Letter: Officials are why plans get changed

I approached a county commissioner about this and was told, "Neighborhoods change." Neighborhoods change? What the heck does that mean? How do they change? Well, in the first five months of last year the Clark County commissioners voted to override their master plans 67 times.

That's how neighborhoods change, folks. Not by accident or fluke but by elected officials putting business and corporate interests ahead of their promises to the people.

Now we have the Las Vegas City Council and Town Center. The plan is barely off the drawing board and already the assault is on. Know the best part? The councilman who was in the lead swearing to the folks in the Town Center area that the city would stick to the ordinance is now taking the lead in seeking a "compromise."

I submit the Town Center plan is, itself, the "compromise" between the corporate interests and the residents. Compromising the compromise is not leadership; it's political hucksterism.

And politicians wonder why they're so distrusted and vilified.
