Letter: Religious fervor needs tempering

My first decade as a convert was spent mired in the '70s incarnation of the Pentacostal/Charismatic movement which periodically surges across this country.

The peril I, and fellow travelers on that "path," eventually came to recognize is that P&C is far too often a stagnant, sticky shallows for either feel-good seekers who don't realize that they are bogged down in an illusory emotional high, or very black-and-white personalities who need a rigid structure to survive in a very gray world.

Eventually, however, it is possible to clamber out onto a solid ground of understanding of our place in the Cosmos.

So the trek is worth something, if you don't get bogged down in the swamp. The tattered T-shirt is also good for cleaning the mud off your feet once you get to the other side.
