Letter: Time to eliminate county islands

The Las Vegas Sun presented an excellent overview last Sunday of the county island problem confronting all concerned parties.

Most logical people understand why one would locate away from the city for their own particular reason, be it raising livestock, the peace, quiet, and beauty of Mother Nature or what have you.

Many envy that great lifestyle. I've had the pleasure of enjoying it, thus can relate accordingly.

However, as time races on, so does our valley growth. I'm sure the resistance cannot be the $195 tax advantage as noted in the example of a $120,000 house value in the Sun article.

That could be wiped away in a flash if the city were to charge each county island resident or business for the use every time a city emergency unit had to respond to the location, for whatever reason.

Like it or not, it is time for the lawmakers to exercise just plain old good common sense and eliminate the island concept entirely.
