Police don't believe abductions are related

Las Vegas police Lt. Tom Monahan said while there are some similarities in the cases, detectives have not uncovered evidence linking the two attacks.

Monahan said a 38-year-old Las Vegas woman told police she was leaving the Red Rock Vista Post Office on North Tenaya Way near Smoke Ranch Road Thursday afternoon when a man with a gun jumped into her vehicle.

The woman was forced to drive to a desert location, where she was sexually assaulted over the next five to six hours. The man then had her drive to a 7-Eleven store at Smoke Ranch Road and Jones Boulevard where he got out and fled.

On Jan. 2 a woman was abducted by three men in the busy parking lot of the Summerlin Gateway Plaza at Lake Mead Boulevard and Buffalo Drive. The woman was approaching her car at 6 p.m. when a four-door sedan with three men inside pulled alongside her vehicle.

She was thrown in the trunk of a car and taken to a desert area, where she was raped by two of her three abductors. She was then dropped off at another location.
