Letter: Adelson, Sands not fair to employees

Before announcing the closing, the bar department had a meeting with the vice president of Food and Beverage, Phil Barnett.

He informed us that the Sands was going to be rebuilt with two hotels and a shopping mall, and that our jobs would be secure. A new hotel would be built before the old one closed.

The ex-Sands workers received an invitation to apply for employment during "four special days" in December; this was similar to a letter my step-daughter, Jessica Kastris, received.

She was also offered four special days in January to fill out an application for employment. Jessica was invited to fill out an application, a Sands representative called her to offer her employment as a cocktail server.

My step-daughter is only 19 years old. When she informed their representatives of this, they offered her employment when she turned 21.

Weidner said that Sheldon Adelson hired job replacement professionals to help with the effort to find Sands workers jobs.

I was told I could not attend one of these seminars because I was a union member.
