Letter: Obscenity has no place on local TV

Why do our children, who are oftentimes in the same room with us as we are watching the news, have to be subjected to such salacious scenes as girls dancing in a local topless bar?

If such stories can truly be considered "news," why can't they just talk about it instead of showing the obscene material? Perhaps they could just save the story until the 11 p.m. news when most children are in bed.

I am getting tired of racing for the remote to quickly change channels or turn off the TV.

I have considered that perhaps I may need to quit watching news on TV and just read the newspaper! I have seen obscene stories on all three major channels.

I find it difficult to believe that people in our community are actually calling news stations to request such sordid stories as are sometimes being shown.
