Four companies left in bid for LVCVA advertising contract

Four advertising agencies have been invited to give oral presentations for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority's lucrative ad contract.

In separate actions, the LVCVA board of directors rejected proposals from five other companies and authorized Purchasing Director Craig Rowley to invite the two Las Vegas companies and two California firms to make presentations on March 9.

Invited for one-hour presentations are Colby, Effler & Partners, Santa Monica, Calif.; Dailey & Associates Advertising, West Hollywood, Calif.; The Merica Agency/Young & Rubicam, Las Vegas; and R&R Advertising, Las Vegas.

R&R has held the contract for about 20 years. The Merica Agency is being assisted by Young & Rubicam, a nationally prominent agency.

Of the five proposals that were rejected, two came from companies that wanted to do only a portion of the contract. Shonkwiler/Marcoux Advertising, Las Vegas, and TBS Media Management, New York, offered to do parts of the contract.

Black Rose Communications, Las Vegas, was rejected for not having experience with accounts of similar size and complexity.

Masterson Marketing Inc., San Diego, did not use the required forms or language required in the bid.

Wendt Advertising & Public Relations, Great Falls, Mont., was rejected because it has a client that is a competing destination, constituting a conflict of interest.

The one-hour appearance next month will include a 40-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session before the board of directors. The board is expected to make a decision after the last presentation.
