Brief: Legislation could up LV-Washington flights

The legislation strikes down the National Airport "perimeter rule" that prohibits flights longer than 1,250 miles to and from Washington. The rule, established in 1986, was a measure to boost traffic to a suburban Washington airport, Dulles International.

The legislation proposed by Sens. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., and John McCain, R-Ariz., would abolish the rule, which could lead to nonstop flights between Washington National and McCarran International Airport. The bill also increases the number of takeoff and landing slots at the Washington airport by 24.
