Index rises

The Salt Lake City economist who calculates the index said it was favorably affected by an expected slowing in the personal bankruptcy filing growth rate and the strong fourth quarter U.S. economic performance.

The index was negatively affected by slowing job growth in Nevada -- while a record-low unemployment rate made it difficult for companies to find employees.
