Brief: Profit rises for LV cable operator

Cox said it expects the number of digital service customers to reach 500,000 by the end of this year. Cox controls the main Las Vegas cable system.

The demand for digital services helped drive fourth-quarter revenue to $486.7 million, up 13 percent.

Net income was $317.9 million, or $1.13 a share, compared with a loss of $77.9 million, or 29 cents a share, a year earlier.

A gain of $769.5 million resulted from the conversion of the company's stake in Sprint PCS to a publicly traded tracking stock.
