Southern Methodist 80, UNLV 78

The Mustangs (13-12, 7-5 Western Athletic) overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to sweep the season series with the Runnin' Rebels.

Jeryl Sasser led Southern Methodist with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists. Elsey finished the game with 13 points.

Shawn Marion paced UNLV (15-9, 8-3) with 19 points and six rebounds. Greedy Daniels and Kevin Simmons added 15 apiece.

After a slow start, SMU hit 7-of-11 three pointers in the second half to get back into the game. Guard Stephen Woods made three shots from distance in the second half on his way to scoring 18 points.

The Runnin' Rebels were playing their first game without center Kaspars Kambala, who had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee earlier in the week and is out for the season.
