Perkins criticizes Augustine for being late to Bryan speech

CARSON CITY -- Assembly Majority Leader Richard Perkins, D-Henderson, has chided state Controller Kathy Augustine for her late entrance into the chambers during Sen. Richard Bryan's speech to the Legislature.

Perkins sent a letter to Augustine Thursday telling her it was "very inappropriate to enter through the front doors" in the middle of Bryan's speech. He said the sergeant at arms "will be instructed not to allow this lack of courtesy in the future."

Seats are set aside in the front of the Assembly chamber for elected officials and honored guests for speeches from Nevada's congressional delegation. Perkins that said in the future those who arrive late will have to sit in the gallery.

Augustine said she was late because she was operating on "legislative' time," meaning the event usually starts 10 minutes or more after its scheduled time. She said she meant no disrespect to Bryan.
