Race fans will be given the opportunity to take a pace lap with their favorite NASCAR Winston Cup driver prior to the March 7 Las Vegas 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as part of a fund-raiser for the local chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.
An auction is scheduled for Thursday, March 4 at 5:45 p.m. at Main Street Station at which fans will have the opportunity to bid for the chance to ride with a Winston Cup driver during the parade lap of the Las Vegas 400.
The top 25 drivers in the Winston Cup points standings will be eligible for bid. Winning bidders will take a lap in a convertible with the driver as part of the drivers' introduction ceremony.
Speedway Children's Charities, headed by LVMS owner Bruton Smith, is active at each of the six tracks owned by Smith's Speedway Motorsports Inc.
"This is a good chance for someone to ride with their favorite driver and also help Speedway Children's Charities," Missy Powell, co-director of the Las Vegas chapter of SCC, said. "There is a lot of excitement about auto racing in Las Vegas and this is the first time that this many fans have had the chance to participate in pre-race activities."
Registration for the auction will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and bidders can pre-register until Wednesday by calling 644-4444. The registration fee is $25 and all proceeds go directly to the local chapter of SCC.
