KTNV Channel 13 reports that Dr. Ian Brown was charged with soliciting a would-be hitman at the Rio Suite Hotel and Casino and offering him $20,000 to kill Brown's wife. The man prosecutors claim Brown initially spoke to contacted Las Vegas police, which began an investigation.
Prosecutors gave no motive for the alleged murder-for-hire plot.
Brown's wife, Judy Sommers Brown, was not injured.
Brown surrendered his medical license in California in 1996 following a slew of complaints. KTNV said the complaints included multiple charges of fraud and double billing.
Brown posted $1 million bond and is currently free pending a court appearance.
