Letter: GOP too beholden to religious right

Starting with the government shutdown, and now the lack of fairness in the impeachment process, i.e., not allowing even a vote in the full House for censure -- basing it on their interpretation of the Constitution -- the Republicans are going to reap the results of being beholden to the religious right/Christian Coalition.

Now they're all going to have to fess up to their sins -- Rep. Bob Livingston was victim No. 1. I'm sure Ralph Reed, former head of the Christian Coalition and now a political adviser, wouldn't have approved of Livingston remaining as speaker. I hope his replacement has met with Reed's approval.

I fear the gradual erosion of the principle of separation of church and state, which has been one of the mainstays of our country's greatness. Let's remain a nonsectarian state.
