Letter: Impeachment vote a futile gesture

If the Republicans truly want something out of this situation besides a page in the history books outlining their failed attempt to impeach, then they will save us from a headache and save taxpayer money by compromising with a censure resolution.

Article I, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution states, "no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of Members present."

Unless the Republicans plan to kidnap several Democratic senators who disagree with their interpretation of Article II, Section 3's assertion concerning impeachable offenses of "Treason, Bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors," the acquittal of Clinton is almost a foregone conclusion.

Claiming that the trial to impeach "fulfills constitutional obligations" is as if Hustler publisher Larry Flynt claimed his effort to unearth the adultery of Congressman Bob Livingston was fulfilling his constitutional obligations given in the First Amendment.
