Letter: Truckers pay for right to roadways

Well, I have news for him -- trucks and buses pay more in road taxes then he will ever pay for the use of the roads. As a truck driver and owner of his own truck I can tell him that I pay more than $5,000 per year to use the roads. Does he? I pay taxes for every mile of road that I drive in every state plus fuel taxes. Does he?

My license plates per year cost me $2,000 to operate my vehicle. And that's my tractor only. That does not include the cost of trailer licenses.

I could go on and on as to the cost of using the highways by trucks and buses so Mr. Bougon, the next time you see a truck on the road, remember if it wasn't for them you would not eat as they bring everything to you by using the highways. So stop complaining about them.
