Editorial: Unhealthy air triggers pollution-control plan

Stricter smog testing of vehicles and lowering the sulfur content in gasoline are some of the possibilities being explored. A petroleum trade group is arguing against changing the fuel mix, saying it might result in gasoline prices increasing by six cents a gallon.

But the County Commission would be irresponsible if it failed to investigate reasonable alternatives that could help clean our air. Not only might it bring us into compliance with federal rules, it just as importantly would make the air healthier to breathe, something all Las Vegans would benefit from.
